Hypervigilance Can Become a Way of Life

Someone’s voice changes, and you’re already preparing for an argument.

A sound, a place, or a conversation drags back what you spent all day trying not to think about.

By the time you catch up, you’re tense, checked out, or hunting for a way out of the room.

Other days go the opposite direction. You feel close to nothing at all.

Some Things Are Hard to Explain, Even to Yourself

You show up, answer what people ask, and get through what has to get done.

Then somebody asks how you are, and the question lands somewhere you have no words for.

Something frightening, hurtful, or overwhelming happened to you. It happened once, or it ran through years of your life.

You’ve talked about it before, or you’ve spent years making sure you never have to.

You’ve Already Talked Yourself Out of This Once

You tell yourself other people had it worse, that too much time has passed, that you should be over it by now.

Those arguments haven’t made sleeping, trusting people, or feeling comfortable in your own life any easier.

You don’t have to prove what happened was bad enough to deserve help.

Start Before You Know What to Say

You don’t need to arrive with your whole story organized.

We can start with what’s happening now: the wrecked sleep, the tension, the moments you shut down, the relationships that have gotten harder to hold.

Expect a conversation between two people working on a problem and doing something meaningful about it.

I’ll ask questions, help you notice patterns, and stay honest with you about what needs attention first.

Let’s Look at Where This Shows Up in Your Life

We’ll look at the situations that set off strong reactions, what you notice in those moments, and what you do next.

We can work on reconnecting with the present when everything is too much, saying what you need, and setting boundaries that fit your life.

We can also make room for the conclusions you’ve carried about yourself: “I should have stopped it.” “I can’t trust my judgment.” “If I let my guard down, something will happen.”

Those thoughts deserve more than quick reassurance, so we’ll examine them together, including the blame you carry for things outside your control.

You Decide What Gets Said and When

Being direct has a limit, and the limit is your readiness.

We’ll talk about the purpose of the work, agree on a pace, and check in about how it’s affecting you.

Your questions and your pushback belong in that conversation.

If there’s an ongoing threat to your safety, we’ll take that seriously and work out what comes next.

What Would Change Look Like for You?

You want to get through a conversation without feeling trapped.

Be present with your partner or your friends, concentrate at school, have more say in how you respond when something catches you off guard.

Those are the changes we’ll use to steer the work, and we’ll keep checking what’s helping and whether the plan needs to change.

No one will ask you to turn what happened into a positive story or to meet somebody else’s deadline.

Start With What’s Hard Right Now

You don’t have to know exactly what you need. Knowing that the way things are going is wearing you out is enough.

Call me today: (973) 897-1919. We’ll talk in a free consultation about what brings you here and whether working together makes sense.

You don’t need the perfect words to begin.

Loosen Your Grip on What You Can't Force

A grip loosens when somebody who can see your hands says so plainly. That's most of what happens here.

There's a version of the conversation with your son where nobody braces for it. A drive home where you walk in with something left. A bedtime that stops being a test.

You don't need to have it figured out before you start. The work asks two things: honesty in the room, and follow-through outside it.

Email me at dan@larrazintegrative.com, and we'll set up a consultation. Bring the version of the problem you'd normally keep to yourself.
