About
You Don’t Need to Be Good at Therapy
A few minutes into a first session, the easy questions run out. You’ve said where you go to school, or what you do for work. Now there’s a pause, and you’re fairly sure the next thing out of my mouth is something you have no idea how to answer.
That’s not how it goes. I ask what your house is like on a Tuesday night. You tell me. And then we’re talking.
Most people show up uncertain, skeptical, annoyed, or all three at once. That’s a completely normal way to walk in, and it slows down exactly nothing.
So bring it disorganized. Working out what’s actually going on is my job, and so is finding a first move that’s worth your time.
Your Version Is the One I Want
You’re tired of people asking what’s wrong, handing you advice, and telling you what you should be doing differently. Even the ones who mean well leave you feeling managed, and nobody likes that.
What I want is your read on it. What you think is actually happening, who’s actually being unfair, and what you’d change if anyone bothered to ask you.
From there we talk honestly about what’s working, what isn’t, and what you want your life to look like going forward.
Nobody who sits across from me is a diagnosis or a problem to be fixed. I’ll treat you as someone capable of understanding yourself, making your own decisions, and taking more ownership of how your life goes.

I’ll Tell You the Truth, Including the Parts You’d Rather Skip
Warm, direct, and goal-oriented is the short version of how I work. I’ll listen carefully and take the time to understand where you’re coming from.
I’ll also say it plainly when I notice a pattern, a contradiction, or a choice that’s costing you. No sugarcoating whatsoever.
There’s a sentence I end up using a lot: “That’s valid, but dude, that does not mean you get to do this.” Both halves of that are true at the same time, and you’ll hear both from me.
Therapy with me is conversational and practical. No clinical vocabulary required, no saying things the right way. Two people working on a problem out loud.
Insight Alone Won’t Change Your Week
Understanding your past explains how a pattern got built. Living inside the explanation does very little for the week you’re actually having.
So what we talk about connects to the life in front of you. Depending on what you’re dealing with, we work on your emotions, how you communicate, what needs repairing at home, or getting some structure underneath your week.
There’s no point understanding a problem if nothing moves. Awareness by itself just makes you better informed about why you feel bad.
We’ll name the patterns that aren’t doing anything for you anymore and build something you can use when I’m nowhere around.

The Goal Is Greater Ownership of Your Life
Here’s what I’m after. You make your own decisions, and you trust the ones you make.
Somewhere down the line you should be able to run this conversation in your own head, without me in the room.
Over time, difficult emotions, old experiences, and other people’s expectations get less of a vote. You communicate more clearly. Hard things get handled instead of avoided, and your choices start to look like the person you want to be.
That reaches past this room. More honesty in your relationships. A house where people aren’t waiting for the next argument. What I want for you is a life that’s yours, and one worth waking up to.

About Dan Larrazabal, LCSW
The way I work came out of noticing who walks into therapy and who never walks in at all.
I graduated from Rutgers University in 2020 with a degree in social work, and I’ve spent the years since with adolescents, adults, and families working through mental health concerns, substance use, relationship difficulties, and major life transitions.
The same thing kept showing up. Boys and men taught to stay quiet, push through, and wait until things are unmanageable before asking anyone for anything. The boys are drowning out there, and who’s gonna help them?
So this is where I put my time. Therapy where a guy is respected, understood, and challenged, without being judged or talked down to.
Ask Me About Anime
Outside the therapy room, my life is family, church, finding the best food around, experimenting in the kitchen, watching anime, and exercising. My own experiences shaped how I understand relationships, success, family, and what it means to build a meaningful life.
If you’re fifteen and you want to spend the first ten minutes of a session on how a show ended, that’s allowed. Some of the best work I do starts sideways like that.
A life worth having gets built out of ordinary material. The relationships, the choices, and the regular Tuesday nights that add up to something.

Start Out Bad at This
If you’re a parent wondering whether your son would actually talk to me, that’s the right question. One conversation answers it better than a website can.
I work with people across New Jersey, including Bergen and Morris Counties.
Email me at dan@larrazintegrative.com to schedule a consultation. Come in skeptical, with no plan and no speech prepared. That describes most first sessions.
Loosen Your Grip on What You Can't Force
A grip loosens when somebody who can see your hands says so plainly. That's most of what happens here.
There's a version of the conversation with your son where nobody braces for it. A drive home where you walk in with something left. A bedtime that stops being a test.
You don't need to have it figured out before you start. The work asks two things: honesty in the room, and follow-through outside it.
Email me at dan@larrazintegrative.com, and we'll set up a consultation. Bring the version of the problem you'd normally keep to yourself.
