Your Attempts to Help Drive Him Farther Away

You asked about his grades. Now you’re arguing about respect, and neither of you can remember how it got there.
Every rule you add gives him something new to push against, and backing off feels like losing him faster.
You’re not sure he even likes you right now.
He Already Knows What You Want From Him
He can recite your whole argument before you finish it. That’s why it doesn’t work.
He agrees with you and does the opposite.
He tells you it’s handled, and you have no way to check.
The real version goes to a group chat you never see.
And you can’t tell anymore which part is the act.
He’ll tell the truth to an adult who isn’t trying to win.
That’s me.
Let Him Talk to Someone He Hasn’t Been Fighting – Get Started Today
Your Son Will Change for His Own Reasons

Every adult in his life hands him reasons to change. He argues with all of them, because arguing is the part he controls.
Mine would just be one more to argue with. So I help him find the reasons he already believes, then tell him straight where his own plan holds up and where it falls apart.
What Your Son Does in Session
Trust comes before advice, and I don’t skip that part.
He gets to bring his version first, and I take it seriously before I push on it. The pace stays his, and the honesty stays mine.
- Name what’s under the anger before it comes out sideways
- Disagree with you without the volume going up
- Handle a hard moment without torching the rest of the night
- Own a bad decision without a lecture forcing it out of him
- Ask for independence in a way you can say yes to
None of this requires him to like therapy first.
He Comes Around With Me Before He Comes Around With You
Earn His Trust
He needs to believe I understand his side and won’t talk down to him. We find what’s underneath the anger, shutdown, or anxiety, and set goals that matter to him.
He stops treating therapy as your idea.
Turn Conflict Into Better Choices
We look at the moments stress takes over, and practice communicating, handling strong feelings, deciding, and taking responsibility without every disagreement turning into a fight.
Conflict starts producing choices instead of damage.
Build Independence You Can Trust
He starts using the skills without prompting. The focus shifts to rebuilding trust at home, respecting boundaries, and giving him more ownership as he heads toward adulthood.
Giving him room stops feeling like a gamble.
Why Trust Me as Your Partner in Healing
A Male Therapist He’ll Talk To
I’m a man in a field where boys rarely get one, and I won’t perform teenage slang or take a side before I’ve heard him out.
Honest Feedback He Can Argue With
He gets told the truth about where he’s wrong and credit where he’s right, which is the part that makes him come back.
Change He Uses Outside the Room
Sessions aim at the argument waiting for him at home, so what he practices with me shows up in how he handles it.

Hi, I’m Dan.
Boys and men are often expected to handle difficult things without being given the language, support, or space to work through them. That’s why I became a therapist, and why this work matters to me personally.
I’m Dan Larrazabal. I work with teen boys and young men ages 14 to 21, and with adult men whose stress is landing on the people at home.
You don’t have to arrive excited about therapy or know how to explain what’s happening. We start with what’s happening right now.
My approach is friendly, conversational, and direct. I won’t simply agree with everything you say, and I won’t overlook the progress you’re making. I’ll be honest about where you’re getting in your own way while helping you see where you’re doing well.
The fastest way to find out is to ask me. Email dan@larrazintegrative.com to schedule a consultation.
Frequently Asked Questions
Your son does. I work with teens and young men individually, and I bring you into a session when it helps him.
He needs to know the sessions belong to him, so I keep the details between us. Anything about his safety comes straight to you.
Then we start with you and what’s happening at home, and we work out an honest way to put the option in front of him.
Yes, in terms of themes and direction rather than transcripts. You’ll know what we’re working on and what he’s ready for at home.
You’ll hear it before he says it. The recovery time after an argument gets shorter, and he tells you things you didn’t have to ask for.

Take the First Step Today
What you notice first is smaller than a breakthrough. He stays at the table after the plates are cleared, and the conversation ends without either of you walking out of it.
Tell me what’s been happening, what you’ve already tried, and what worries you most. We’ll work out together whether I’m the right therapist for your son, and I’ll tell you straight if I’m not.
That’s what the free consultation is for.
He has plenty to say to an adult who won’t flinch.
